Let’s CEE Film Festival

This month of October, visitors in Vienna can experience one of the city’s film festivals. It may not be as big as the Viennale but it’s worth attending.

The Let’s CEE Festival is now ongoing and is already on its fourth year. It showcases  some 120 first-class dramatic, documentary and short films created in Central and Eastern Europe. Most of them are Austrian premieres and are shwon in their original language with German or English subtitles.

The High Sun, a winner in the Un Certain Regard competition in Cannes, was the first film to be shown. The Body, which received the Silver Bear award in Berlin, is also featured.

Other than the film showings, though, the Let’s CEE Festival will also hold panel discussions, exhibitions and concerts.

The Let’s CEE winners 2015 were recently awarded in Vienna’s Urania Cinema. There were a total of five competitions covering feature film, documentary, short film and promising debuts. There were also awards for best actress and lifetime achievement. You Carry Me directed by Ivona Juka was the winner for Best Film in the feature film competition while The Queen of Silence won as Best Film in the documentary competition.

The feature film competition attracted the most entries with 11 that were not only moving but were also created with passion and much enthusiasm. They were said to be highly artistic reflections of the present world.
