Viennale International Film Festival 2014

The month of October is here and this means, it’s time once again for the Vienna International Film Festival. This is the most important international film event in Austria and is one of the oldest and most popular festivals as well in the German-speaking nations. 

At Vienna’s historic city center where the cinemas are found, some 96,000 visitors from Austria and abroad are expected to be in attendance for this year’s Viennale International Film Festival. Most of those who attend the event are the younger generation. The event is scheduled from October 23 to November 6. 

Only carefully selected films numbering about 300 from around the world will be shown in the cinemas. All film genres are included although focus of the festival is often on documentary, international short, experimental and crossover films. 

The festival will culminate with the awarding of te FIPRESCI Prize of the International Film Critics’ Association and the Vienna Film Prize courtesy of the City of Vienna. Major activities lined up for the event are gala screenings, parties, interviews, audience discussions and a meet-and-greet opportunity with international guests. 

The Viennale is internationally recognized for showcasing the film history and film industry of Austria as well as important personalities and institutions in collaboration with the Austrian Filmmuseum.
