The Natural History Museum is the partner of the Museum of Art History. Situated in the same area of Maria-Theresien Platz directly opposite the other museum, this place was built in 1881 and has 39 galleries plus a dome-style hall. Majority of the collection exhibited here was founded by Francis I who served as the consort of Maria Theresa during its opening in 1765. Visitors will find here the anthropological department, botanical gallery, children’s room, geological and palaeontological department, the dinosaur collection as well as the prehistory and zoological departments.
